End of Life Care
Truly, one of the most difficult parts of being a pet owner is managing quality of life decisions, especially as our pet companions reach their final months or years. When owners call or schedule an exam to consult about the need for euthanasia in a stationary practice, great attempts are made to understand the home situation. Nonetheless, these efforts are limited due to the doctor being unable to fully assess the home situation and the pet’s interaction with their home environment. Another, equally important aspect is that sometimes the level of care required is overwhelming or not possible for some owners. Owners, often in distress, do their best to convey all this difficult information.
This is where mobile veterinary care can really shine. St. Brigid’s Mobile Veterinarian can come to your home, where you can show the doctor the pet’s and owner’s main challenges. This takes pressure off the owner to come up with an explanation that can be clearly seen when the home is visited. Our In-Home Quality-of-Life Assessments, coupled with a thorough discussion and examination of the pet, mediate a more thorough method of determining if Euthanasia is the proper way forward. If not, we can make individual recommendations for pet accommodation in the home as well as any necessary medical management. This increases comfort for both the patient and owner, empowering the owner to be satisfied with their decision.
In their last moments, owners want their pet to be as comfortable as possible, which usually means at their familiar home, surrounded by loving family members. Once euthanasia is chosen by the owner in the best interest of their pet, the struggle to transport a critically ill or disabled pet elsewhere can be emotionally and physically exhausting. Dr. Lynn wants every animal to have a happy death with comfort and relatively low stress. As a mobile veterinarian, Dr. Lynn is humbly pleased that in-home euthanasia is one of our standard offerings.
Our in-home euthanasia service is augmented by a house call, exam at a discount if requested, and presedation to allow the pet to be fully relaxed before passing on. Once the pet is confirmed to have passed, the owner can either choose to bury or enlist cremation services. If the owner elects cremation, St. Brigid’s Mobile Veterinarian has partnered with Heggie’s Pet Crematorium and can transport the pet there for you. Heggie’s offers return in an urn or cremation without receiving back the ashes of your pet. Heggie’s does a wonderful job ensuring that pet remains are handled with respect and dignity; St. Brigid’s Mobile Veterinarian is honored to work with them.
